Assistant engineer Ganesh Kale, junior engineer Deepak Sharma and sub-engineer Tushar Guzara were attacked by accused Manoj Gupta, Parvez Sheikh along with four other men.

The engineers were conducting a public grievance meeting at the ward office when the six accused stormed Kale’s cabin and assaulted them. A civic official said that Kale, who has in the past undergone by-pass surgery, was admitted to the intensive care unit of Bhagwati hospital.

Officials are also saying that Kale and his team were taking action against illegal structures built by Gupta and Sheikh during the last month.

Sukhdeo Kashid, representative of civic engineers union, said that engineers taking action against illegal structures should be given police protection as they are targeted by mobs while doing their duty.
