"Around 40 per cent of the seats in the science, commerce and arts stream have been filled," said Kavita Rege, principal of Sathaye College at Vile Parle. "We are hoping that the others will secure their seat in the next two days."
The data from the education department said that 45,996 students have taken provisional admission while 1,15,863 students are yet to report to secure their admission in the first round. A total of 1,62,028 students made it to the first list.
In some colleges such as Ruparel College at Matunga, almost 70 per cent students had provisionally secured their seats. "The students will have to take admission in the next two days or else they will not be able to continue in the online admission system," said Manju Nichani, principal, KC College at Churchgate.
Students can provisionally secure a seat in the college that they have been allotted in the first round by paying Rs. 50 till 2 pm on August 13. They can avail one betterment option in the next merit lists. The second general merit list will come out on August 19.
