Man arrested for robbery in Govandi

A man who was wanted in at least 15 burglaries and robberies in the city and neighbouring Thane district, was arrested from suburban Govandi on Wednesday, police said.

Acting on a tip off, police laid a trap near a Vikas Beer Bar in Govandi when the accused Kailash Suryavanshi arrived on Tuesday night.

The accused was subsequently apprehended and a 7.65 mm bore pistol, three cartridges and cash of Rs 1.80 lakh

was recovered from him, police said. Suryavanshi was earlier arrested in a robbery case in 2004 and was released on bail in 2006, police said. After his release, he formed a new gang and carried out several robberies.
