Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, who heads the energy department, unveiled this facility on Thursday. For availing the service, consumers have to register themselves on the number 567678 by sending an SMS to this number, with the text being MSEDCL (space) REG (space) 12 digit consumer number (space) billing unit number (space) 16 digit credit card number (space) expiry date of the credit card.

Registered consumers will get their monthly electricity bills via SMS. Those who want to know the details of their current bills can do so by sending an SMS to the same number, with the text being MSEDCL (space) bill (space) consumer number (space) billing unit number.

Consumers can also pay via Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS), using their mobile or landline phones, for which they would need to call the number 022-29213100. Those having GPRS/3G enabled cell phones can download client software, install it on their mobiles and pay the electricity bills. For this, they will need to SMS the word 'ATOM', to 54959, to get the link to download the software.
