The team comprising Girraj Singh, Saji Thomas, Lokesh Kumar, Manjeet Singh, Rajesh Kumar Yadav, Ranjit Singh, Satish Joshi and Jenil Krishnan finished second behind China with a timing of 5:49.50.

They were behind the Chinese team all through in the 2000m race but kept the host under pressure. By the 500m mark, the Indians were behind by 3.11 seconds but as the race progressed the Chinese increased the gap.
