Terming Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders as “bunch of rookies”, Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh on Sunday said the state needs an experienced and decisive leadership to bring it out of “financial and political mess.”
Addressing a meeting of Congress workers organised by senior party leader and Patiala rural MLA Brahm Mohindra here, Amarinder hit out at the Akali leadership, saying he (Captain) is the only one who can set the Badals right.
The Punjab Congress chief said after coming to power in 2017, he will hold them (Badals) accountable for all their “sins of omission and commission during the last two terms”.
“They could have never thought even in their wildest dreams that somebody would put them behind the bars, but I did it (during 2002-2007 tenure)”, he said.
Asking people to reject the AAP, Captain said the state needs a leadership which has proved credentials and is rooted in Punjab.
“We need someone whose heart and soul lives in Punjab and who can actually feel the pain like one among us “, he said, asking people to be beware of “misleading promises” of AAP leaders, including its convener Arvind Kejriwal.
“Like Badals have failed in Punjab, Kejriwal has failed in Delhi. While the Badals have become the epitome of corruption, Kejriwal has turned out to be an example of incompetence. He (Kejriwal) is a master in conceiving and contriving excuses to hide his failures,” Amarinder alleged.
Earlier, Amarinder announced that Mohindra will be made a minister if the Congress forms government in the state.
Chairman campaign committee Ambika Soni said the Congress will announce its candidates six months before the elections. She said a vote to AAP will indirectly benefit the SAD, and appealed people to vote enmasse for the Congress.
AICC general secretary Shakeel Ahmad, MLAs Parneet Kaur and Lal Singh were also present on the occasion.
People of Punjab have rejected Amarinder twice: SAD
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) reacted strongly to Amarinder’s statement against chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and said the people of the state have already rejected him twice due to “his vindictive actions and indecent behaviour.”
In statement released by the party here on Sunday, SAD spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said it was strange that Amarinder has not learnt lessons from the past. He reminded the PPCC president that people of the state had twice rejected him for his “indecency.”
“Every time during polls, he (Captain) resorts to his old gimmick of using foul language,” said Cheema.
Cheema further reminded the former CM that Badal, against whom he (Captain) had registered false cases, have already been exonerated by courts. He said that before levelling false, baseless and politically motivated allegations against Badal, Amarinder should check his facts first.
