A dating site headed the survey of 4,000 people and found that more than half, 55 per cent, thought divorce was the worst thing they had ever experienced.

The research further discovered that most people also took a year and a half to deal with the agony of divorce, reports the Daily Express.

A spokesman for the website said: “It takes 18 months to get over divorce, but couples are often separated for a long time before this – so it could take years for the dust to settle after a split.”
