ICICI Bank sanctioned 300-crore loan to Videocon Group company when it had no cash flow: CBI

ICICI Bank granted a ?300 crore loan to Videocon International Electronics Limited in 2009 when the company had "no operating activity and no cash flow," according to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The loan was given against guarantees from Videocon Industries, despite the holding company being debt-ridden. Charges have been filed against former ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar and others for alleged irregularities in granting loans to Videocon Group companies. The CBI claims that the Kochhars received kickbacks and a discounted flat in exchange for the loans.

Kochhars got flat in Churchgate in 2016 for just 11 lakh: CBI to court

Former ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar misused her position to grant loans to ineligible Videocon Group firms, according to the Central Bureau of Investigation. Kochhar, her husband and the group's promoter have been charged with corruption. The prosecutor argued Kochhar accepted a $64m gratuity and that the family benefited from the transfer of a flat in Mumbai's Churchgate area, owned by Videocon, for just $15,000. Kochhar was a member of the loan committee that approved loans of $40m to Videocon from ICICI Bank, the charges allege.

Videocon loans fraud case: ICICI Bank grants CBI sanction to prosecute Chanda Kochhar

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday informed a special court that ICICI Bank had granted the agency sanction to prosecute its former managing director and chief executive officer Chanda Kochhar in connection with a case of alleged irregularities in granting loans to six of Videocon Group firms promoted by Venugopal Dhoot.

ICICI Bank commits 1,200 crore to Tata Memorial Centre

ICICI Bank has pledged INR12bn ($160m) to the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) to establish three cancer care facilities in India. The bank's contribution, which comes from its corporate social responsibility fund, will create new buildings with a combined area of 7.5 lakh square feet at centres in Navi Mumbai, Mullanpur and Visakhapatnam. These will double the number of patients TMC is able to treat annually to 25,000. ICICI Foundation will also set up an 'ICICI Radiation Oncology Block' at TMC's Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer in Navi Mumbai.
