Through the notice, the NGT sought responses from the environment ministry, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Delhi Police Commissioner and governments of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan.

The Dakshinbanga Matsyajibi Forum in a petition said several barges transporting fly ash from Kolkata and Haldia in West Bengal to Bangladesh have capsized in the Hooghly river which pollutes the river’s ecosystem and adversely affects the fishing industry.

The Bombay High Court asked the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to inform the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that its order for eviction of encroachments in a river bed cannot be implemented till October 31.
