No police help, demolition drive halted for second day

Cops deny force for demolition drives in South Delhi

According to a letter by the Station House Officer of Sarita Vihar police station to SDMC, a prior intimation of at least 10 days may be given to fix the date for encroachment removal drive in the area so that sufficient staff may be given to assist the civic officials

In a first, SDMC crosses 1,000 crore in property tax collections

SDMC collected over ₹1,075 crore from 460,000 taxpayers this year. In comparison, the civic body managed to collect ₹943 crore in 2020-21 and ₹823.6 crore in the 2019-20 financial year.

The court observed that every citizen has a right to move around in the area created by the state and asked why SDMC officials were not moving independently on wheelchairs.

Delhi’s south civic body orders merger, closure of 29 primary schools

In an order issued by the SDMC education department on Thursday, the additional director (education) stated that the municipal commissioner has accorded administrative approval for merging five schools in central zone, one in South zone, 15 in West zone and eight in Najafgarh zone

The merger will be operationalised from April 1, 2022, on commencement of the new academic session, and the zonal directors have been asked to submit proposals for transfer of principals, special educators, teachers, school attendants and other staff members who will be rendered surplus after the merger. In a first, Delhi civic body to lease out heritage properties for commercial use

A senior official of the heritage conservation committee said the SDMC has a total of 475 heritage properties under its control, of which some are as old as 400 years

Amit Shah likely to lift curtains on city’s 2nd ‘waste-to-art’ park this Friday

This will be the second waste-to-art park in Delhi where replicas of monuments have been set up using scrap material. Officials said that the facility uses 350 tonnes of scrap to recreate 17 Indian monuments over 8.5 acres.
