In the 2021 Swachh Survekshan list, North MCD ranked 45 among the 48 local bodies in the country with over one million population
AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj on Sunday said that all the three BJP-ruled MCDs have failed disastrously, and have not even been able to make it to the top 20 in the swachh rankings by the central government
NDMC improved on its 2020 ranking, when it clinched the third spot in the survey, even as the North MCD fell from 43rd to 45th on the rankings, out of 48 cities, while the East MCD climbed from 46 last year to 40 this year
The results of the survey were announced by President Ram Nath Kovind, who gave away the awards in the presence of Union housing and urban affairs minister Hardeep Singh Puri and others at the ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’, at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Saturday
Chhattisgarh has been awarded cleanest state in the annual cleanliness survey while Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh has won the cleanest Ganga town in the Swachh Survekshan 2021’ awards.

The event to felicitate the cities, ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’ is being organised by the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs (MOHUA) and would take place at Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital.
Swachh Survekshan Grameen: The Jal Shakti ministry said 17,475 villages in 698 districts of the country will be covered by the cleanliness survey. Around 87,250 public places, such as schools, Anganwadi centres, public health centres, markets, religious places will be visited for the survey.

Citizen feedback, which has 25% weightage in the final score, is open till January 31. Only 3% registered users have responded so far.
A total of 425 urban local bodies from across the country had participated in this year’s Swachh Survekshan. Ghaziabad has improved a lot as is evident from its ranking from last year, when the city had the 351st position nationally.

Swati Singh Sambyal, programme manager, solid waste management at Centre for Science and Environment, said, “The rankings hold up a mirror for the MCDs. They are not focusing on implementing the Solid Waste Management Byelaws 2016. There is no segregation, the only emphasis is on waste to energy plants.”
