US adds India to list of countries affected by African swine fever

African swine fever reported in Manipur, illegal import of pigs blamed

Last year, the African swine fever killed many pigs in Assam, subsequently the import of the animal was prohibited in Manipur.

China bans import of pigs, wild boar from India because of African swine fever

China, the biggest consumer of pork in the world, has banned the import of pigs and wild boars from India to prevent the spread of the African swine fever (ASF), Chinese customs and agricultural ministry have announced.

Assam lifts ban on pork sale in AFS-affected districts with certain riders

African Swine Fever is a highly contagious haemorrhagic viral disease of domestic and wild pigs. It can spread by live or dead – both domestic and wild- and through pork products.
