African swine fever: Punjab govt to give compensation for culling of pigs

The African Swine Fever (ASF), which was first detected in Assam in February 2020, affects both domestic and wild pigs. While swine flu can spread from animals to humans, ASF cannot be transmitted from pigs to humans.

African swine fever reported in Kannur and Wayanad districts of Kerala

One case each of the disease has been reported from Wayanad and Kannur, the respective district officials said.

The Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry in Wayanad, Dr Rajesh, said that 193 pigs in and around the Nenmeni farm in Sultan Bathery will have to be culled this week to prevent the disease from spreading.

China, the biggest consumer of pork in the world, has banned the import of pigs and wild boars from India to prevent the spread of the African swine fever (ASF), Chinese customs and agricultural ministry have announced.
