Vidya Balan was born in Mumbai. Maharashtra. She pursued her master’s degree in sociology from Delhi University. She made her acting debut in 1995 with the television show Hum Paanch. She made her big-screen debut in 2003 with the Bengali film Bhalo Theko. She has starred in many successful movies like The Dirty Picture, Paa, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Mission Mangal. For the biopic, The Dirty Picture, she won the National Film Award for Best Actress. She is a member of Indian Central Board of Film Certification. She is married to Siddharth Roy Kapur. She was awarded with Padma Shri in 2014.
