Cops drag away protestor by legs during stir over bribe-for-jobs scam in Kolkata

Abhishek Banerjee's sister-in-law moves HC after ED stops her from flying abroad

Maneka Gambhir was on Saturday stopped by immigration officials from boarding a flight to Bangkok, where her parents live. She was asked to wait, and later an ED officer from the central agency's Kolkata office reached the airport and handed Gambhir the notice.

Bengal now plans to replace governor as visitor of private varsities

The Bengal BJP said the effort to remove governor Jagdeep Dhankhar from the functioning of private universities was part of chief minister Mamata Banerjee's plans to control the education system.

There was no reaction from Raj Bhawan till Saturday evening although it is the governor who has to give his assent to the bill that the government plans to table in the assembly. (PTI)

The ruling on a petition filed by Babita Sarkar, who told the court that she was deprived of the job despite scoring 77 marks in the state level selection exam held in 2016 as opposed to minister of state for education Paresh Chandra Adhikary's daughter Ankita, who got 61.

Bengal govt to roll out open-air classes for primary school students

The West Bengal education department is all set to roll out a new initiative --'Paray Sikshalay' (neighborhood school) -- under which primary and pre-primary students of state-run schools will be given lessons in open spaces, an official here said on Sunday.

‘Draconian’: Mamata again writes to PM on proposed changes in IAS cadre rules

Flights from Mumbai, Delhi can reach Bengal thrice a week from today

Following the initial announcement on Sunday, the West Bengal government allowed flights from Delhi and Mumbai to land in the state twice a week. However, the decision was reviewed and in a fresh letter on Tuesday, it was announced that the restrictions have been changed to thrice a week.
