Gareth Southgate says England ‘not at the same stage’ as Germany

Gareth Southgate has admitted England's set-up is not at the same stage as Germany's, and said it will take time for players from the youth teams to break into the senior side. England host current FIFA World Champions Germany at Wembley on Friday and Brazil four days later. In addition to Harry Kane and Harry Winks, Dele Alli, Raheem Sterling, Jordan Henderson and Fabian Delph have also pulled out of the England squad. Southgate has called up Everton defender Michael Keane, uncapped Burnley midfielder Jack Cork and West Bromwich Albion's Jake Livermore as cover. England's last game against Germany, a 1-0 friendly defeat in Dortmund in March, was marred by a small number of England fans who booed the German anthem and sang songs about World War II.
