Punjab: Nihang Sikh Kills Cop, Locks Group Inside Gurdwara After Clashes; Kapurthala Tense

A clash erupted between Nihang Sikhs and police officials in Punjab's Kapurthala. Two of the Nihang groups have been at loggerheads for the past three days over control of Gurdwara Akal Bunga, situated opposite the main Gurdwara Ber Sahib. However, the situation escalated in the area early Thursday morning. This happened after cops tried to vacate the gurdwara from the Nihang group manned by Mann Singh. His supporters started firing indiscriminately at the police, killing a constable and injuring five others. The Nihangs, who are heavily armed, have locked the gurdwara from the inside. The police have barricaded the whole area and initiated talks with the Nihang group.
