Afghanistan reach final stage of World Cup qualifying

Afghanistan reached another milestone in their remarkable rise in international cricket as they beat Cayman Islands by 82 runs on January 31 to reach the final stage of the 2011 World Cup qualifying competition. It was a huge win for the Afghans who became affiliate members of the International Cricket Council in just 2001, and had to work their way through Division Five in Jersey last May, then Division Four in Tanzania the following October.
