The incident occurred as Iran launched retaliatory strikes across the oil-rich Gulf following US and Israeli attacks, shaking a region long viewed as a haven of stability.

One witness said he saw thick black smoke billowing from a hotel on the Palm and heard ambulances heading to the area.

Dubai’s media office later confirmed an “incident” in a building in the Palm Jumeirah area that led to a fire and left four people injured.

Iran launched strikes on all the oil-rich Gulf countries except Oman, which is acting as a mediator in the US-Iran talks.

Iran's Defence Minister's death

In a major setback for Tehran’s leadership, Iran’s Defence Minister Amir Nasirzadeh and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Mohammed Pakpour are believed to have been killed in an Israeli strike, according to sources familiar with Israel’s military operations and a regional source, Reuters reported.

Conflict spread beyond Iran

The US-Israel-Iran conflict rapidly spread beyond Iran’s borders. Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard said it had launched a “first wave” of drones and missiles aimed at Israel. A nationwide alert was issued in Israel as the military said it was working to intercept the incoming fire.

In Bahrain, authorities said a missile strike targeted the US Navy’s 5th Fleet headquarters in the island nation. Witnesses reported hearing sirens and explosions in Kuwait, which hosts US Army Central, while blasts were also heard in Qatar.

Iraq and the United Arab Emirates shut their airspace, and warning sirens rang out in Jordan. In the UAE capital, shrapnel from an attack killed one person, according to state media, marking the first known fatality in Iran’s counteroffensive.

Meanwhile, the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen vowed to resume attacks on Red Sea shipping lanes and on Israel, two senior Houthi officials said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because there was no formal statement from the group’s leadership.

Tensions in the Middle East escalated on Saturday, with the US-Israel joint attack on Iran's Tehran, reportedly near Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's residential palace and offices. The strikes were announced by Israel and US President Donald Trump later confirmed the country's role, warning that bombs would be “dropped everywhere”.

A nationwide alert is in place in Israel following counterstrikes from Tehran and interception of Iranian missiles. Iran, Israel and Iraq are among countries that have shut down their airspace following the escalation, with several airlines cancelling flights to these countries.

Besides, some reports said mobile phones lines have been cut and internet connectivity hit in parts of Tehran, and schools and workplaces have either been shut down or directed to operate remotely in Israel.

Here are top updates on the fresh escalation:

Israel strikes Iran: After weeks of simmering tensions between Iran and the US, Israel intervened on Saturday, launching what it called “preventative” or pre-emptive strikes in Tehran. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz described the attack as being done “to remove threats” and also declared a state of emergency.

Fresh strikes with US help: The Israeli strikes in Tehran were conducted with help from the US, President Donald Trump confirmed on Saturday, vowing to “raze” the country's missile industry to the ground. The development comes amid ongoing diplomatic tensions and talks of a possible nuclear deal between Iran and the US.

Iran, Israel shut airspace: The Israeli military said that it had issued a “proactive alert to prepare the public for the possibility of missiles being launched toward the state of Israel.” In this regard, the country has shut down its airspace to civilian flights, reports said. Besides, Iran also shut down its airspace and mobile phone services were cut in parts of Tehran.

Strikes reported near Khamenei's office: As Israel announced strikes in Tehran, news agency AP reported that explosions were heard near Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's offices in the city. However, it is said that Khamenei has been moved to safety and wasn't present inside the office premises at the time.

India's advisory for nationals in Israel: Amid a fresh escalation in the Middle East, the Indian embassy in Israel issued an advisory for nationals in the country, asking them to stay vigilant and cautious.
