Fresh strikes hit Iran, Israel and Gulf nations
Heavy explosions were heard in several parts of Iran's capital city Tehran again, AFP journalists reported, However, it was not immediately clear what was targeted.
Israel had earlier launched a fresh wave of strikes in central Iran, striking security sites and missile launch sites. The targets included “a rocket engine production facility and several long-range ballistic missiles launch sites.”
Meanwhile, Iran continued retaliatory strikes on Gulf nations, with Bahrain sounded sirens Monday, urging citizens to reach a safe place amid Iranian threats. “The siren has been sounded. Citizens and residents are urged to remain calm and head to the nearest safe place,” the country's interior ministry said. Iranian strikes hit Bahrain's largest oil refinery BAPCO earlier today, following which the state oil company declared force majeure.
This comes after US and Israel had, in a first since the start of the conflict, struck oil facilities across Iran, including in the capital city Tehran.
Saudi Arabia on Monday said it had downed four Iranian drones heading towards Shaybah oilfield. The United Arab Emirates said its air defence systems were responding to a missile attack.
Iran appoints Supreme Leader successor
With the conflict in West Asia entering its second week, Iran chose its new supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, state broadcaster IRIB reported. Mojtaba is the son of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in joint US-Israeli strikes.
The broadcaster on its telegram channel further said that the Islamic Republic had launched its “first wave of missiles under Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei towards occupied territories.
