Florida's warning to schools after Charlie Kirk's death; 'It's wrong and…'
James Uthmeier, a Republican, has issued a major warning to schools preventing Turning Point USA chapters forming.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has warned public schools across the state not to block the formation of Turning Point USA chapters, pledging legal action if necessary.
In a video posted on X, Uthmeier said the Florida Attorney General's Office of Parental Rights launched earlier this year would intervene to ensure students' rights to free association and debate are upheld.
"We were hearing reports up and down the state of public schools not allowing Turning Point USA organizations to be formed on campus. This is discriminatory. It's wrong and we will not stand for it," Uthmeier said.

According to Newsweek, the warning comes as TPUSA, a conservative youth organization founded by Charlie Kirk, experiences a surge in interest following Kirk's assassination earlier this month. The 31-year-old activist, a close ally of US President Donald Trump, was fatally shot on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University during his "American Comeback Tour."

TPUSA has since seen a flood of requests from students to form new chapters. The group currently operates around 900 college chapters and 1,200 high school chapters nationwide. A spokesperson, Andrew Kolvet, said on X that the number of new inquiries topped 120,000 following a recent memorial service for Kirk, according to Fox News.
Appearing alongside Uthmeier in the video, April Carney, a Duval County School Board member, said the board is updating its policies to ensure there are "no issues" with opening new TPUSA clubs or other student-led groups.
Following Kirk's death, his widow Erika Kirk has been named CEO of TPUSA. The organization said Kirk had previously expressed this wish in the event of his passing. Erika has vowed to continue his mission, telling supporters on September 12, "The movement my husband built will not die."
Conservatives across the country have pledged continued financial and organizational support for TPUSA, ensuring its rapid expansion on campuses nationwide.
