A woman was killed and a suspect is dead following a shooting inside of a northwest Indiana antique shop Saturday night, August 22, NBC Chicago reported. A press release stated that Lake County police and the Indiana State Police were called to an antiques shop located in the 2900 block of West 181st Avenue in Hebron shortly after 7 pm.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department said that a man allegedly shot a woman dead inside the location, and also shot and injured a 24-year-old woman who was trying to flee the scene. The suspect is believed to have later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.

The wounded woman’s condition has since been stabilized at a local hospital, authorities said.

Witnesses claimed to see police activity

Before details about the shooting surfaced, “active shooter” claims surfaced on social media as witnesses reported seeing several cops and fire trucks at the site near Lowell, Indiana.

“What the hell is happening in Lowell Indiana. Shit ton of cops, ambulances and fire trucks off route 2 and i65,” a user wrote on Facebook.

“There is an active shooter right around DW’s country junction, people have been shot. If you have kids or friends going down tonight, you may give them a heads up. They are on lock down,” another user wrote.

“We are working to gather more information on a shooting that has just occurred in Hebron,” Reporter Paul Goddard wrote. “At this time, preliminary information indicates that multiple people may have been shot. This remains a developing situation. Police are working to secure a large scene near 2 & 65, and we are awaiting additional information from authorities. All information is preliminary and subject to change. We will provide updates as details are confirmed.”

He later said in an update that police told him two people died at the scene, including the shooter.

“Also one other injured female shot,” he added.

Meanwhile, D.W.'s Junction 2-65, a bar in Hebron, Indiana, said that there has been an active shooter "between here and the truck stops" and that "people have been shot and we are on lockdown."

“If you’re on your way, do not come work we’re locked in. There’s an active shooter between here and the truck stops. People have been shot and we are on lockdown,” D.W.’s Junction 2-65 wrote on social media.
