USF Tampa shooting alert: Gunmen reported near Urban Place Apartments on Fletcher

USF Tampa (Fletcher District) issued an alert about armed people near Urban Place Apartments. Police swarmed area; no confirmation of shots or injuries, yet.

The University of South Florida's Tampa, Florida campus - referred to as the Fletcher District - issued an emergency alert on Tuesday about armed individuals near the Urban Place Apartment.

The alert asked the campus community to avoid the area as law enforcement responded. Locals reported a massive presence of law enforcement personnel at the scene.

It is unclear is shots have been fired or if anyone has been injured.

The alert was later withdrawn, after the preliminary police probe. The campus was declared safe. It is unclear what prompted the threat.

The University of South Florida’s Tampa campus is in northern Tampa, Florida, along East Fowler Avenue, near Busch Gardens and I-275.
