Anurag is my family, my guardian in the industry, says Vicky Kaushal

Actor Vicky Kaushal talks about his close association with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and says he always runs all decisions by him.

Actor Vicky Kaushal, who has assisted filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in his film Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) and acted in his Raman Raghav 2.0, says Kashyap is his mentor.

“Anurag is like family to me, he is my mentor. I started out in this industry with his film. I was an assistant director in his film Gangs of Wasseypur and I know him personally. He is my guardian. I constantly run all my decisions by him,” says Vicky.

“In fact, for my last film Raman Raghav 2.0 as well, I got a call from him. But he told me that he was not too sure about me essaying the role as my character was messed up and edgy, very different from how I am in real life. Anurag knows me well and thought that I was not ready at the time and suggested that I prepare well even for the audition,” says Vicky, who rose to fame with his film Masaan (2015).

As part of his preparation, Vicky locked himself in a room days before the audition. “I feel that preparation for any role is important. Anurag had asked me to prepare and give the audition based on which he would take a call. I locked myself in a room with no wifi or any other connection with the world. I became cranky and restless. I stayed like that for five days, after which I went straight for the audition. When I got to know that Anurag wanted to meet me, I was almost in tears,” says Vicky, who will now be seen in Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Manmarziyan.
