Hollywood actor Camilla Belle, like her co-star Vinay Virmani from Speedy Singhs, is from a multi-cultural background. That, she insists, was one of the few reasons she signed the film. “I come from a mixed background. My mom’s Brazilian and I grew up in a Brazilian household, but was raised in Los Angeles with western friends.

So that ‘who am I?’ question was very present in my life while growing up,” says the actor, who is known for her role in films
like 10,000 BC (2008) and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997).

The Indo-Canadian Akshay Kumar production was shot in Canada, and apparently the only Bollywood element in it is the dream sequence
song between the main protagonists, something Belle was thrilled about.

“I’ve always had a lot of Bollywood music on my iPod, and it was fun to learn the actual moves that I've been seeing in films and dress up in those clothes,” she says, before adding that the one Hindi film she remembers the most is Dhoom 2 (2006) starring Hrithik Roshan. “I was switching channels one day and the opening train scene from Dhoom 2 was on. I couldn’t get off the couch. I was hooked; I became obsessed with it. The fact that it was shot in Brazil was also something I loved. I sent YouTube videos to all my girlfriends. They all fell in love with Hrithik.”

When told that she would probably meet him eventually, she smiled, “I’ll be embarrassed if I do, and we won’t tell him about this story."

In the city to promote her forthcoming film, which also stars stand-up comic Russell Peters and Anupam Kher, Belle hasn’t had much time to see the country. But when she spent a few hours in New Delhi, she “went for a rickshaw ride”. “I tried to experience as much as

possible. I visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar and that was incredible,” says the actor, whose film hits

theatres today.
