EC on cancelling nomination papers

Legal adviser to the Election Commission, SK Mendiratta has said if a candidate removes the error found in his nomination form of affidavit before 3pm on September 29, then the nomination paper should not be cancelled.

Legal adviser to the Election Commission, SK Mendiratta has said if a candidate removes the error found in his nomination form of affidavit before 3pm on September 29, then the nomination paper should not be cancelled.

The advice was given by Mendiratta during a video conference with Haryana officials. EC's legal adviser also said the nomination papers of a candidate should be properly scrutinised before cancellation and benefit of doubt could be given to the candidate.
