Addressing a meeting of the state advisory committee of the animal husbandry department, the minister said animal husbandry was presently contributing nearly 13% of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the state. He said the Punjab government had decided to organise special training camps, especially in rural areas, to assist the youth for pursuing subsidiary occupations such as dairy farming, fisheries and piggery.

The minister has also directed higher officials to monitor the functioning of recently established 100 goat units at a cost of Rs 85 lakh for training across the state.
