"The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has been given a go-ahead to purchase 300 diesel buses to be plied on inter-state routes. A proposal in this regard was cleared on Wednesday at a meeting headed by Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta," a senior government official said.

"Of a total 300 buses, 60 will be air-conditioned," he said.

"Depending on the need, the DTC will use them for regular passengers or tourists' routes," the official said, adding the buses will be monitored through Global Positioning System.

Presently, DTC has a fleet of 274 diesel buses that operates from Yamuna Vihar, Gajipur and Dilshad Garden depots.

"The diesel buses will be exclusively operating on inter-state routes and would not be used for services in the capital where public transport vehicles are run on CNG," the official added.
