BJP opposes MCD trifurcation

The civic agency said all 2,275 institutions of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi had been connected electronically and the division of MCD in three units would mean nullifying the entire work that has been undertaken.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna formally inaugurated the data centre at the headquarters of the civic agency.

Under the e-governance project, the civic agency will provide 71 services of its 40 departments online for Delhiites.

“If the trifurcation proposal is accepted, it would lead to serious imbalances in the march of progress of the city towards transparency, effectiveness and time-bound delivery of services,” said Mayor Rajni Abbi.

The civic agency said it had been working on the implementation of the project for years and trifurcation would be a major setback.

“A new work culture has dawned in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi with the functioning of the administration in the civic centre. The e-governance projects are going full steam. Trifurcation will severely affect it,” said Subhash Arya, leader of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi House.

“More than Rs 500 crore have been invested in building the Civic Centre, which has a value of more than Rs 5,000 crore with its land building and other facilities,” said Vijendra Gupta, BJP state president.

“In addition, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has invested Rs 200 crore in setting up e-governance system. All these will go to waste,” said Gupta.
