Retired Lieutenant General Tejinder Singh on Wednesday denied offering any bribe to army chief General VK Singh during his examination by the CBI officials in the agency headquarters here.

The CBI is holding a preliminary inquiry into the charge levelled against Lt Gen Tejinder Singh by Gen VK Singh that he was offered bribe of Rs.14 crore by the retired officer in September 2010 to clear a tranche of around 600 Tatra heavy duty trucks by the army.
“Lt Gen Tejinder Singh told CBI that he had met Gen VK Singh to seek his help in getting the chairman’s post in the National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO), which is the technical intelligence agency of the country. He denied offering any bribe — direct or indirect—on anybody’s behalf to the army chief. The retired officer also told the agency that he was fighting the allegations levelled by Gen VK Singh against him in courts as well,” said a source.
According to sources, Lt Gen Tejinder Singh was quizzed about the allegations pertaining to the Tatra deal as well.
The army chief had alleged that Lt Gen Tejinder Singh had offered him bribe on behalf of Vectra-owner Ravinder Rishi. Rishi is facing a separate CBI probe into the procurement of Tatra trucks procurement by the army since 1997.
According to sources, Lt Gen Singh questioned the delay by the army chief in levelling the charge against him. The meeting had taken place in September 2010 but the army chief brought the allegations in public domain in March this year after which the defence ministry ordered a CBI probe.
“We are reviewing the replies given by Lt Gen Tejinder Singh. After verifying his statement, we will decide how to proceed,” said a source.
