PIOs to comment on RTI applications

Finding stiff resistance from citizens to its proposal to impose a restriction of 250 words in Right To Information (RTI) applications, the Department of Personnel and Training has turned to Public Information Officers (PIO) for support for the controversial proposal.

Finding stiff resistance from citizens to its proposal to impose a restriction of 250 words in Right To Information (RTI) applications, the Department of Personnel and Training has turned to Public Information Officers (PIO) for support for the controversial proposal. It has sought comments from PIOs regarding the draft RTI rules, on the grounds that the provision will help PIOs in discharging their duty to implement the RTI Act. However, most RTI activists believe the provision will dilute the transparency law.

New performance indicator for babus

There will be a new performance indicator for babus working with the Central government. The Cabinet Secretariat has decided that an important indicator to measure performance of bureaucrats will be their ability to meet targets stipulated in the Results Framework Document of each government ministry. The department heads are required to fix
targets for different sections for every financial year.

DoPT, 24 others miss prosecution deadline

The Department of Personnel and Training — expected to lead by example — seems to have again flunked the test. According to a list of cases, pending for more than four months, put up by Central Vigilance Commission, DoPT does not seem to fare any better than the two dozen other departments that have missed the deadline. The Supreme Court had given the government three months to take a decision to accord prosecution sanction. Did someone say practise before you preach?
