Union home minister P Chidambaram Tuesday said a well-trained person has orchestrated bomb attack on Israeli diplomat’s wife.

“It is quite clear that a very well-trained person has committed this attack. There is reason to believe that the target was the Israeli diplomat’s wife and, therefore, one has to proceed on the basis that it was a terrorist attack,” said Chidambaram.

He was briefed by Delhi police commissioner BK Gupta and other officers. The home ministry said it appeared that a motorcycle rider came from behind when the Innova car was stopped at a junction after the traffic signal light turned red. The assailant attached the device at the rear door of the car, the trunk area of the vehicle on the right side, and zipped past it presumbly turning either left on Safdurjung Road or proceeding straight on Kamal Attaturk Marg.

“The explosion, according to the eye-witness Gopal Krishnan, happened within seconds. We think it happened within four to five seconds of the device being attached,” he said.

The home minister said CCTV cameras in the vicinity were being scanned. He said investigators have not got any clear images of the motorcycle or its number plate.

Meanwhile, the home ministry has asked to all states to beef up security in and around Jewish establishments. It also told the states hosting diplomatic missions of Israel, the US and other western countries, to tighten security there.
