National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2019 exam that was to be conducted on May 5 has been postponed in Odisha state due to relief and rehabilitation work going on in state post cyclone Fani. The exam will be conducted in the schedule time in all other states. The revised dates for the NEET 2019 exam in Odisha will be announced soon.

R. Subrahmanyam, education secretary in Ministry of Human Resource Developement tweeted on Saturday,
“ #NEET exam scheduled for 5th May in Odisha postponed as per the request of State Govt working on relief and rehabilitation work in the wake of #FaniCyclone. Revised dates for the exam in Odisha will be announced soon. @DG_NTA @PrakashJavdekar @CMO_Odisha”.

Meanwhile, ANI has reported that the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Goa president, Ahraz Mulla has written a letter to the President, Prime Minister and Union HRD ministry -- requesting them to postpone NEET exam, in view of difficulties faced by students due to cyclone ‘Fani’ in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

Cyclone Fani, one of the biggest storms to come off the Indian Ocean in recent years, made landfall in Odisha’s Puri on Friday, India’s Meteorological Department said. Over 10 people have reportedly died due to Fani. However, there is no official confirmation of the numbers.

More than 1 million people were evacuated from vulnerable districts in last 24 hours. On Thursday, the Odisha government conveyed to the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), the country’s top body for handling emergency situations, that 10,000 villages and 52 towns in nine districts will be affected due to Cyclone Fani , a home ministry statement said after a meeting of the NCMC, which was headed by cabinet secretary PK Sinha.

Earlier, on Friday NTA had issued a notification regarding change of examination centres of students due to Lok Sabha Polls and some other unavoidable reasons.

The agency has also issued a list where students can know which new Centre has been allotted to them. The NEET 2019 examination is scheduled to be held on May 5.

NTA said that the concerned candidates have already been informed about this and advised to download their fresh e-Admit card available on NTA website at www.ntaneet.nic.in.
