Actor Anupama Parameswaran sparked off rumours of a breakup last month when she returned to Instagram after months and wrote captions about a controlling relationship. She was rumoured to have been dating actor Vikram’s son, Dhruv Vikram, with whom she co-starred in Bison Kaalamaadan. While she did not confirm or deny that relationship, Anupama spoke on Dhanya Varma’s YouTube channel about a narcissistic ex-boyfriend whom she dated for two years.

Anupama Parameswaran compares ex to Vikram’s Anniyan

Interestingly, Anupama compared her unnamed ex-boyfriend to Vikram’s 2005 hit Anniyan character, in which he has a split personality. “A very funny kind of explanation, but for people who don’t know about narcissistic abuse, imagine having Anniyan in your life. One day, he’s Remo, like you would feel, how lucky am I to get a person in my life? Is this even reality?’ It’s like a dream. The next day, you would see Anniyan.”

Anupama claimed that things would get so ‘brutal’ that the person wouldn’t even react if she were ‘stabbed to death’. However, soon after that, the person would come back to her ‘apologising, begging, and pleading’, all while promising to change and ‘lovebombing’ her while crying like a baby. The actor stated that the ex’s personality would waver between these extremes. So much so that Anupama had to rehearse what to say because she could never predict their reaction.

Claims she wasn’t allowed to promote Dragon or dress as she likes

Anupama stated that the transition into the relationship becoming controlling was ‘slow and silent’. “By that time, you’re deeply in love, because families are talking. I stayed in their family, and that person has stayed in mine. It’s all serious; you’re mentally fixed on the idea that this is the person you spend your life with. That’s when the control becomes more direct. Why did I not promote a movie like Dragon? That was one of the most successful films in my career. You will have to let go of so many projects you do,” she claimed.

The actor also stated that she soon found her ex-boyfriend controlling how she dresses, too. She went from wearing jeans and a top to dressing more conservatively, becoming silent because he praised her for being ‘controlled and classy’. The situation soon unravelled to the point that Anupama was sending pictures of her outfits for approval before going out and seeking permission before posting anything on Instagram.

Anupama Parameswaran’s emotional posts

In July, Anupama returned to social media after February with a photo dump. A portion of her caption read: “Turns out, when you don’t have to wait for approvals, a song selection, or someone else’s caption… posting becomes a lot more fun.” In another post’s caption, she wrote, “Sometimes, you have to let go of the dead ends to finally find your peace,” adding, “And today, peace found me.” She also wrote, “No more permissions.
No more fear.” Earlier this month, she refused to talk about it at the teaser launch of Crazy Kalyanam.

In early 2025, rumours surfaced that Dhruv and Anupama were dating while they were shooting for Mari Selvaraj’s Bison Kaalamaadan. This only intensified as an unverified picture of them kissing began circulating, with fans claiming to have found it as the display picture for their shared Spotify playlist. At a Chennai awards show this year, Anupama blushed as Dhruv wished her a happy birthday on stage, and she called him her 2 AM call. When he posted a cosy selfie with her from another award show in Mumbai, she re-shared it with a heart.
