Interview | Munawar Faruqui reacts to his eviction from The Traitors Season 2 on first day: ‘Bohot upset tha’

Munawar Faruqui has opened up for the first time about feeling targeted on the show even when every other contestant knew he was not the traitor.

Munawar Faruqui was one of the most recognisable names in the celebrity line-up in The Traitors Season 2. After winning Lock Upp season 1 and Bigg Boss Season 17, he was expected to be a strong player in the game of deception, hosted by Karan Johar. However, his shocking eviction in the first circle of shaq left many viewers surprised. In an exclusive chat with Hindustan Times along with other evicted contestants Harman Singha, Karan Singh Magic, and Soundous Moufakir, Munawar has now opened up about his eviction, and admitted that he was targeted by the other contestants because he was a strong player.

Munawar says he was really upset after his eviction

Munawar appeared emotional when host Karan Johar asked him to reveal his identity, whether he was an ‘innocent’ or a ‘traitor’. Speaking about that moment, Munawar says, "Waha pe pehle din hi jo kuch bhi hua usse sab ko pata chal gaya tha ki main traitor nahi hoon (Everyone knew that I was not the traitor after what happened on the first day). I was playing the game to catch the traitor with everyone. I was trying that I do not give any wrong name on that day. That is why I was working hard to get to the traitor. Even though everyone knew I am not the traitor still they gave my name just to get me out… toh main bohot upset hua, mujhe bohot bura laga (I was really upset, I found it really bad)."

Even after Munawar was eliminated from the game, the third episode had many contestants discussing why his name was dragged into the middle and it was the traitor's trick to take him out after all. Parul Gulati, Ranveer Brar and Rhea Chakraborty also slammed the herd mentality that resulted in the eviction of Munawar. Many of them even termed it as a ‘surgical strike’ against Munawar to target him on the very first day.

‘I defended myself as much as I could’

Munawar agrees when I bring this up and says, “In the third episode it almost seems like I am still present inbetween them! Bura laga (I felt bad), specially for a few people. Now I am over it, because that is part of the game and everyone cannot win. Only one can take the title and if one group has targeted me then what can I do? I tried my best on the circle of shaq and it was never that I was quiet over there… I defended myself as much as I could. But that did not work in my favour. But I am okay now I am over it (smiles) I am bigger than that.”
