Farmers' protest: Multiple gates at at least eight stations of Delhi Metro shut

Chief Justice of India Chandrachud has acknowledged the traffic congestion in the National Capital Region due to the farmers' 'Delhi Chalo' march and assured that arrangements will be made to accommodate lawyers during court hearings.

Union Minister Arjun Munda says "We care about the interests of the farmers. It is not our concern if someone is doing politics over this issue. We have always been ready for talks and discussions and we are ready to do everything possible to find a solution to this issue. This issue also concerns the state governments. We need time to understand this issue and find a method to solve this..."

The Delhi Government has declined the central government's suggestion to convert Bawana Stadium into a jail ahead of the farmers' march to Delhi today.

Commenting on the proposal, Delhi Government Home Minister Kailash Gehlot stated, “The demands of the farmers are genuine. It is the constitutional right of every citizen to make a peaceful protest. It is therefore incorrect to arrest the farmers...”

Uttar Pradesh, Noida ADCP, Anil Kumar Yadav said to ANI, "...A Traffic plan has been prepared...Drones are also being used. Checking is happening at the Delhi border. Traffic in other parts is normal..."

Heavy traffic was witnessed at the Singhu border ahead of the ‘Delhi chalo’ march by farmers, who are protesting to make a law guaranteeing MSP for crops.

Farmers Protest Live: "We are not proposing to block roads; it's the government itself that has blocked roads," stated farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher regarding the 'Delhi Chalo' march.

Pandher remarked on the heavy barricading, likening the borders of Punjab and Haryana to international borders.

Adish Aggarwala, President, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), writes to Chief Justice of India (CJI), DY Chandrachud, seeking suo motu action against the farmers for trying to enter Delhi ‘to create a nuisance and disturbing the daily life of citizens.’ Aggarwala also requests the CJI to issue directions to courts to not pass any adverse order due to the non-presence of lawyers before the courts.

Ahead of the march, Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee General Secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher holds a meeting with farmer unions in Fatehgarh Sahib.

In Haryana's Ambala, Patiala SP Mohd Sarfaraz reviews security arrangements at the state's Shambhu border with Delhi, ahead of the cultivators' march.

The Congress has extended its support to the protest, with the party's national president, Mallikarjun Kharge, declaring that if voted to power in the April-May general election, the grand old party will notify the repeal of the farm laws.

"The Centre did not issue any notification of repealing the laws. Where is the notification of repealing these laws? Once it comes to power, the Congress will nullify these three laws,” Kharge said on Sunday.

As talks between the farmers and government remained inconclusive, the former have taken a call to go ahead with their march to Delhi, which will begin at 10 am.

As many as 200 farmer groups and unions are participating in the march.

Security heightened at Delhi-Uttar Pradesh Gazipur border in view of the march declared by farmers towards the Capital.

In November 2020, farmers sat on the borders of the national capital against the three central farm legislations, which they said were ‘black laws.’ Eventually, in November 2021, the Union government was forced to repeal the laws.

Here's how the two agitations are different from each other.

The meeting with the ministers went on for around five hours yesterday. We presented an agenda in front of them. The central government has not been able to make a strong decision on anything. The government is asking for time from us to pause the agitation. But they asked us for time two years ago too, when the farmers' agitation ended. We thought that giving time is not suitable now. The protest is being led by by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha; the latter is an offshoot of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), which led the November 2020-2021 agitation against the three central farm laws. SKM is not participating in the current protest.

Overall, farmers from 200 organisations and unions will march to Delhi on Tuesday.

Tight security at Delhi's Singhu border in view of the farmers' protest march, which is set to commence at 10 am. Section 144 has already been put place throughout the national capital, and will be in force till March 12.

Section 144 prohibits gathering of more than five individuals.

Ahead of farmers protest, Delhi's IGI Airport issues an advisory for passengers.

A petition was filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday against the sealing of borders and suspension of mobile internet services by the Haryana government in the wake of farmer outfits calling for a protest march to Delhi on February 13.

After meeting with the farmers, Union Minister Arjun Munda said, “We held extensive and exhaustive deliberations with the farmers on every issue. The government is engaged in a dislogue with all the stakeholders and wants to resolve all disputes through talks. We reached a broad consensus on some of the issues of contention raised. However, on some other issues, we suggested that a committee be put together in the interest of a permanent solution. Any issue of contention could be resolved through talks.”
