Police inspector Yashwant Nalavade said Rakesh Khedekar admitted to killing his wife after he was rushed to a hospital when he collapsed en route to Mumbai. Police said Khedekar exited his car after pulling over as he felt dizzy on Thursday.

Police suspect Khedekar had consumed pesticides, possibly to end his life, which caused him to be semi-conscious. They said timely intervention and hospitalisation helped stabilise his condition. Khedekar was shifted to Pune’s Sassoon General Hospital for further treatment as Karnataka Police confirmed that he was the prime suspect in the murder.

The body of Khedekar’s 32-year-old wife, Gauri, was found stuffed in a suitcase at their residence in Bengaluru on Thursday. The couple had been married for two years.

Police said Khedekar left Bengaluru for Mumbai on Tuesday after killing his wife in a fit of rage. On Thursday, he also called his landlord and confessed to the murder.
