4 ex-constables get 7 yrs RI

Four former constables of Uttarakhand police have been sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment by a special CBI court on Friday for killing a person and grievously injuring two others while trying to control a mob during the statehood agitation.

Four former constables of Uttarakhand police have been sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment by a special CBI court on Friday for killing a person and grievously injuring two others while trying to control a mob during the statehood agitation.

Over 17 years after registration of the case, Madan Singh, Jitender Kumar, Yashveer Singh and Jaipal Singh are convicted under different sections of the IPC. The court has also directed that the victim is to be paid Rs. 20,000 as compensation and Rs. 10,000 each will be paid to the injured persons.

Acting on Allahabad High Court's directive, the CBI had on January 25, 1995 registered a case and taken up the investigation.
