"The Congress party welcomes the decision of the Government of India to continue talks with Pakistan," Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said in a statement in New Delhi.

The party hoped that the continuation of talks would accelerate the peace process and lead to a concrete solution in the public interest of both countries.

"We hope and trust that, while keeping India's guard at an appropriate level of alertness, the continuance of talks would accelerate the peace process and lead to concrete solutions in the public interest of both countries," Singhvi said.

The party noted that "India has sent out a clear, unequivocal and unambiguous message to the world in general and to Pakistan in particular that there can be no compromise or half way house on terror."
