CPI to support Puducherry Govt
Puducherry unit of the CPI will continue its support to the Rangasamy-led Congress government in Puducherry for 'the present' despite the Left parties withdrawing support to the UPA government at the Centre.
"Though Left parties have withdrawn support to Congress-led government at the Centre, a final decision on extending support the Puducherry government would be taken at our party's national council meeting in Delhi on August 3," CPI Secretary of the local unit N Kalainathan, MLA said.
Another party MLA, R Viswanathan, expressed the same view.
CPI has two legislators in the Puducherry Assembly and it has been supporting the government from outside.
Though the party was supporting the government, it has staged several demonstrations demanding implementation of welfare measures for the poor, Kalainathan said.
