Acting on specific information about the presence of militants, a joint search operation was launched by Rashtriya Rifle troops and Special Operation Group of police in Bagla forest, 160 km from Jammu, in the morning, they said.

The militants, believed to be three in number, opened indiscriminate fire from there automatic weapons on the approaching security forces, who also retaliated.

The security operation was supervised by DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range S D S Jamwal.
