Talking to journalists here on Friday Dhruv Narayan Singh, son of the late Govind Narayan Singh, said that the objective of the tournament is to provide opportunity to the school-level players to demonstrate their talent.

“It was a long-awaited demand to organise a high-standard cricket tournament for the school teams. This tournament is to provide them the opportunity”, said Singh who is also the Bhopal Divisional Cricket Association (BDCA) president.
The organising committee has expected good participation of leading schools of the City. The committee has restricted the entries to 32 teams. Every day, two matches will be played.

The semifinal and final matches will be of 30 and 40 overs respectively. All the matches will be played on the knockout basis with ODIs rules.

Singh said that tournament would be organised every year. “Like other open tournaments, this will also be organised annually and with the same standards”, said Singh.

Addressing the press conference, MPCA vice president Dr Shafquat Mohammad Khan said that it is a welcome step to tap the potential available at school-level.

“I welcome the decision of organising a standard tournament at the school-level, as it will help in developing more players”, said Khan.

BDCA vice president Aruneshwar Singhdeo, organising committee president Vijesh Lunawat, Hamidullah Khan ‘Mamu’, Rajat Mohan Verma, Uttam Thakur, Rajiv Saxena, Sushil Singh Thakur, JP Tyagi, and others were present at the conference.
