ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY (AU) administration has finally begun an exercise to systematically deal with the deluge of representations and memoranda?dealing with various issues including the demand for the cancellation of the Post Graduate Admission Test (PGAT)- 2006? submitted by the agitating students to the Vice-Chancellor and the Proctor during the past few days.

ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY (AU) administration has finally begun an exercise to systematically deal with the deluge of representations and memoranda—dealing with various issues including the demand for the cancellation of the Post Graduate Admission Test (PGAT)- 2006— submitted by the agitating students to the Vice-Chancellor and the Proctor during the past few days.

Now, all these representations will be taken up by the members of the AU Grievance Committee, comprising of the Dean Students Welfare (DSW) Prof Jagdamba Singh, Proctor Prof Jata Shankar and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof GK Rai. For the purpose, the varsity's Grievance Committee members have decided to hold a meeting with the representatives of the various groups of agitating students at the DSW's office at 3 pm on July 15.

"We will be taking up various issues systematically with the students. After going through the representations, we will then submit our report containing our recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor for his considerations," informed Prof Jata Shankar on Wednesday.

It is to be recalled that various groups of students have been agitating over different issues for the past many days. While a number of groups are demanding cancellation of the recently held PGAT-2006 following allegations of paper leak, a number of other students have raised the issue concerning amenities on the campus and poor condition of hostels along with a section of students who want the varsity to go right ahead and declare the PGAT-2006 results without delay.

Though the agitations have been going on for the past many days, recently all the agitating groups of students had one thing in common: each wanted an appointment with the VC to talk over their grievances. "It is in this light that we decided to take up the representations systematically at the Grievance Committee so that the VC can be apprised of their varying demands. Following this decision, we have decided to hold the meeting on Saturday afternoon where we will be speaking to the various groups of students," Prof Jata Shankar added.
