Heat wave continues in Orissa

Heat wave conditions continued to prevail in Orissa as most parts of the state registered temperatures of 40 degrees C or more with Sambalpur topping the chart at 45.4 degrees C.

Heat wave conditions continued to prevail in Orissa as most parts of the state registered temperatures of 40 degrees C or more with Sambalpur topping the chart at 45.4 degrees C.

For the second consecutive day the capital city sizzled at 44.7 degrees C and the people had to cope with the gruelling heat accompanied by high humidity level.

However, Titilagarh in Balangir district, which had registered a blistering 48.6 degrees C yesterday, was comparatively cooler at 45.1 degrees C today.

Life in the western belt had been badly affected during the day time as people confined themselves indoors.

The water level in the Hirakud reservoir near Sambalpur had receded to 597 feet today against 599 feet recorded on this day last year.

Sundargarh recorded 45 degrees C today followed by Jharsuguda (44.5), Bhawanipatna (44), Koraput (42.8), Parlakhemundi (42.4), Malkangiri (42.2), Cuttack (42.1), Jeypore (42), Nawarangpur (41.5), Phulbani (40.7), Chandbali (40.5) and Keonjhar (40).

The coastal city of Berhampur, where the summer temperature normally remained below the 40 degree C level, touched the mark after five years today, the reports said.
