Heavy rains forecast in TN for two days

Met officials said in Chennai that during the period isolated heavy rain was likely to occur over coastal Tamil Nadu while isolated rain was likely over interior parts of the state.

Heavy rains are likely to lash many parts of Tamil Nadu during the next 48 hours starting 8.30 am on Saturday under the influence of a trough of low pressure, lying over south-west and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Coast.

Met officials said here that during the period isolated heavy rain was likely to occur over coastal Tamil Nadu while isolated rain was likely over interior parts of the state.

Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the see as strong onshore winds with the maximum speed reaching 45-55 km was likely to sweep along Tamil Nadu and Puducherrry coast during the next 24 hours starting 8.30 am today.

Heavy rains continued to batter the city for the second day as several low lying areas were under knee deep water. Several trees in various localities were uprooted due to gusty winds.

Chennai city recorded nine cm of rain during the last 24 hours ending 8.30 am today.
