The cable sent by US envoy to New Delhi Timothy Roemer in August 2009 says after meeting Narayanan that "the NSA readily conceded a differing policy vision with his boss".
The cable said Narayanan informed Roemer that after the PM spoke about India's "shared destiny" with Pakistan, he told Singh: "You have a shared destiny, we don't."
Narayanan was appointed as the governor of West Bengal in January 2010 and former foreign secretary Shivshankar Menon came in as his successor.
