With a view to provide financial assistance to tribal students interested in pursuing higher studies, the Centre would soon launch a special scheme under which it would grant upto Rs 8,000 every month for eligible candidates for a period of three years.

“We are contemplating to start a new scheme namely Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship under which 667 scheduled tribes students will be given fellowships to pursue studies at the M Phil and above level,” Secretary in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs Meena Gupta said.

The fellowship would be launched with the help of the University Grants Commission.

“We are planning to start the scholarship from this year itself. An M Phil student will get scholarship for two years and a Ph D student for three years which could be upto Rs 8,000,” Gupta said.
