THE SACKED BJP leader Uma Bharti on Thursday announced that she would field a woman candidate against Sonia Gandhi in the coming Lok Sabha by-election in Rae Bareli. She also took a pledge to free the people of Rae Bareli from the clutches of the Nehru-Gandhi family.
Uma, however, declined to disclose the name of the candidate who, she said, had made more sacrifices and was a better ‘sanyasin’ than Sonia Gandhi.
The people of Rae Bareli were being emotionally exploited by the Nehru-Gandhi family while no progress had been made in the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency as people were still living in abject poverty, Uma said.
She also said that the Congress nominee had been defeated twice in the past and this history would be repeated again provided she got the support of all the parties to ensure defeat of Sonia.
Talking to reporters here on Thursday, she said the name of the woman candidate would be announced after discussion with all parties on or after April 30 Criticising Sonia for her opportunistic politics, Uma said honest and devoted politicians were not the monopoly of Italy alone and Sonia-like ‘sanyasins’ live in every nook and corner of the country.
She claimed that the stage was set to launch her new proposed political outfit in six states, including UP, Uttaranchal, Delhi and MP, where even district units had been constituted.
Reacting to BJP chief Raj Nath Singh’s statement that the party had never dropped Hinduism and the Ram Janmabhoomi issue from its agenda, she urged LK Adavani to clarify his statement in Pakistan where he had reportedly praised Jinnah and regretted the demolition of the disputed structure in Ayodhya.
She also sought clarification from the BJP for issuing whip to its MLAs in the biennial Rajya Sabha elections for giving third preference vote to Sudhansu Mittal, whose name was proposed by gangsters like Mukhtar Ansari, Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaia and Vijay Singh.
Mukhtar was accused of engineering Mau riots and killing Hindus while Vijay Singh had gunned down senior BJP leader Brahm Dutt Dwivedi, but such people were now in the BJP’s good book, she said.
