A DELEGATION comprising daily passengers who travel from Bhopal to Hoshangabad/Itarsi submitted a memorandum to Union Minister Suresh Pachauri in regards to the difficulties faced by them during train journey.
The Daily Up-downers Union said that railway policies have made travel very difficult and almost humiliating.
Thousands of passengers travel to Itarsi and Hoshangabad daily and every train has only two or three general bogeys that are already full with passengers leaving the daily commuters with no option but to enter the sleeper.
Union president Vijay Agarwal said the Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTE) charge penalty from passengers who hold the Monthly Seasonal Tickets (MST), which has been hiked from Rs 50 to Rs 250 since July 2004, has hit the daily up-downers hard.
The Union has demanded that a monthly pass for sleepers should also be made. It has suggested that separate bogeys should be attached in the Southern Express, Rajkot Express and Mahamaya Express for up-downers, and until this arrangement comes about daily commuters should be allowed to sit in the sleeper.
Besides, other suggestions also include a proposal for halting the Mahamaya Express at Habibganj, Chennai-Jaipur Express and Pushpak Express at Hoshangabad.
Agarwal said that a parking fee for scooters, which has been raised to Rs 5, is probably the highest in the country. He has demanded it to be reduced to Rs 2.
