Vehicular traffic to Kattu Bannari in Sathyamangalam forest here has been suspended after people complained of having seen some panthers in the area, forest department officials said.

Vehicular traffic to Kattu Bannari in Sathyamangalam forest here has been suspended after people complained of having seen some panthers in the area, forest department officials said.

Some devotees of Kattu Bannariamman temple, situated in the forest area, on Monday said they had seen a panther and its cub near the temple, the officials said.

The officials appealed to the devotees and general public not to enter into reserve forest area.

Forest department officials and the Special Task Force (STF) police were conducting regular combing operations in the forest area to prevent poaching of animals and cutting of trees.
